PRAIRIE ISLAND NUCLEAR GENERATING PoANT Docket No. 50-282 License No. DPR-42 50-306 DPR-60 Environmcatal Event Report 79-08 Cooling Tower Operationn - September Under TS B-5.4.2.A, we are furnichinn two copies of this Environmental Event Report covering operation of the plant circulating water system in the partial recycle mode with daily average blowdown flow in excess of 150 cfs.

Daily average blowdown flow in excess of 150 cfs was required for 23 random days during the nonth of September. Excess blowdown flows tanged from a low of 160 cfa on September 7 to a high of 572 cfs on September 1. The daily blowdown flow rate average for the month was 269 cfs.

The higher flows were required to maintain cooling water inlet terpera-tures at less than 85"F.
