Dear Sir:
Subject:
Adequacy of Station Electric Distribution System Voltages We have recently received your letter Reference (d) which requires all licensees to review the electric power systems at each of their nuclear plants; to analytically determine if, assuming all onsite ac power sources are not available, the offsite power system and the onsite dist.ribution system is of sufficient capacity and capability to automatically start as we]1 as operate all required safety loads.
In addition, you requested us to review the electric power systems for possible noncompliance with CDC-17. You requested completion of the overall review and a copy of the analysis within 60 days.
The Nuclear Services Division of Yankee Atomic Electric Company is presently conducting this review and associated analyses for the Yankee Rowe, Vermont Yankee, and Maine Yankee nuclear power plants. The complexity of the analysis requires that several computer studies be utilized to obtain accurate and reliable results.
Computer models are presently being established to represent the maximum electrical loading for each event analyzed and to represent all automatic actions caused by the event.
Because of the compounded details of this program and due to current man-power shortages experienced through IMI-2 related work, we regret that we will be unable to meet the required 60 day completion deadline..We estimate Ui.?$S,'U 790921o w 7
United States Nuclear Regulatory Cocnission September 14, 1979 Attention: Office of !!uclear Reactor Regulation Page Two that we will require an additicnal two months to complete this effort and as such we anticipate filing the completed analyses for Yankee Rcwe, Ver=ont Yankee and Maine Yankee by early to mid December,1979. If at any time through-out the reviews we identify any violation of GDC-17 or inadequacies of voltage requirements of safety loads, remedial action will be taken ictediately and you will be notified pursuant to Technical Specifications.
Should you have any questions, please contact us.
Very truly yours, YANKEE ATOMIC ELECTRIC COMPANY Robert H. Groce Licensing Engineer RTT/cjp cc: Dennis L. Ziemann, Chief, ORB #2 Thomas A. Ippolito, Chief, ORB #3 Robert W. Reid, Chief, ORB #4 e
