Prussia, Pennsylvania 19406 Attention: Mr. Boyce H. Grier, Director Gentlemen:
This letter is in reference to I.E.Bulletin 79-18, Audibility Problems Encountered on Evacuation of Personnel from High Noise Areas.
A study was perfomed in 1975 to verify that emergency alams and announcements were clearly audible throughout the plant with emphasis on high noise areas.
This study identified some areas where adequate audible emergency signals could not be assured. As a result, 55 page units installed in high noise areas were modified to incorporate a high volume override capability which is automatically actuated when the plant emergency alann is sounded. This modification was completed on July 13, 1976 for Unit 1 and May 4,1977 for Unit 2.
Testing was then performed which verified that emergency alarms and announcements could be heard throughout the plant. No further action is considered necessary.
Should you have further questions regarding this matter, we would be pleased to discuss them with you.
