Description of Event

on August 19, 19 79, during normal power operation, TI-RS-100A indicated a casing coolin: tank temperature of greater than 50*F which is in violation of T.S. 3. 6. 2. 2.c. 3.

Probable Consequences of Occurrence

'4ith casing cooling tank temperature above 50*F coincident with a containment depressurization actuation, a net positive suction head within design require-ments would not be delivered to the cutside recirculation spray pumps, however, the tank and its associated pumps would still function to inject ulter if required.

Since the temperature of the tank was returned to below 50*F within the time allowed by the ACTION statement, the health and safety of the general public were not affected. There are no generic implications associated with this event.

Cause

The incretse in teoperature was caused by a freon leak in one of the casing cooling chiller units.

The loss of freon decreased the cooling capacity of the chiller unit.

Imr.ediate Corrective Action The Icak was located and repaired and the chiller unit was recharged with freon.

Scheduled Corrective Action No scheduled corrective actions required.

Actions Taken To Prevent Recurrence No further actions required.
