NRC MONTHLY OPERATING REPORT OPERATING

SUMMARY

AUGUST, 1979 UNIT II The 50% power plateau testing continued from the previous month. On 8/7 the unit tripped due to a control rod slipping. The unit was returned to power on 8/8 and testing continued. A trip occurred on 8/11 due to low steam generator level caused by MSR level instrumentation failure.

While returning the unit to power, a reactor trip occurred at low power.

The unit was returned to power on 8/14 and portions of the main condenser were isolated for condenser tube leak repairs while holding at a reduced power. Another trip occurred on 8/18 due to instrumentation problems when an instrument power source was changed. The reactor tripped twice during attempts to reestablish operation. The unit was returned to power on 8/20 and power operation has continued throughout the renainder of the month.
