Dear ?!r . Ippolito:

Enclosed for your review is the revised Peach Botton Fire Protection Plan incorporating revisions requested in your letter dated November 17, 1978, staff position PF-50e, regarding fire protection.

A comprehensive review by the Operations and Safety Review Committee, Quality Assurance Division -

Electric Production Department, and the orr,anizations responsible for the implementation of the Plan indicated the need to propose additional revisions. Proposed revisions to the document are indicated by a vertical bar in the right hand margin, and are categorized at follows:

1. :3umerous editorial and typographical revisions.

2. "Shoulds" and " mays" have been changed to "shall" where necessary to implement existing quality assurance concepts, as requested by the NRC.

3. The following NRC requested revisions have been incorporated into the Plan:

a. page 6, item 4

b. page 7, item 1

c. page 11, items 6 and 7 D

4. Chanzes on page 3 bring the plan into conformity with the Technical Specifications, Section 4.14.A.

5. The responsibility for monitoring NRC Fire Drills has been transferred from the Administration and Training Division (formerly 1.c on page 5) te the Safety Division (item 6 on page 13). The revision is necessary to provide the expertise to perform this task.

6. The " Safe Shutdown Analysis Equipment List" referred to in item 4 on page 14 was revised to identify the contents of the list.

7. The document referenced in section 12, page 16, has been revised, from ""egulatory Guide 1.120" to " Appendix A (dated August 23, 1976) to Branch Technical Position 9.5-1." This revision establishes conformity with the other sections of the Plan; and represents one of the options presented in the

?IR C document " Nuclear Plant Fire Protection Functional Responsibilities, Administrative Controls and Quality Assurance", attachment No. 6.
