DOCKET NO. STN 50-437 APPLICANT: OFFSHORE POWER SYSTEMS FACILITY:

FLOATING NUCLEAR PLANTS 1-8

SUBJECT:

SUMMARY

OF MEETING HELD ON AUGUST 15, 1979 A meeting was held in Bethesda, Maryland with the applicant on August 15, 1979 to discuss the contents of the July 25, 1979 ACRS letter (see Enclosure 1) regarding the FNP core ladle design. Attendance at the meeting is shown in.

At the onset of the meeting, the applicant stated that the configuration gf the core ladle had been evised to provide a ladle capacity of some 4000 feet (previously 900 feet ).

Both the bottom and sides of the ladle are now five foot >, hick magnesium oxide brick.

The use of an eight foot radius on the in-ccre initrumentation lir.es have permitted the increase in ladle capacity.

The cpplicant also stated that should additional capacity be required as a result of either R&D or final design considerations, a second " spill-over" ladle could be provided (only as an ultimate fallback position) and the in-core instrumentation tubing route could be changed (similar to the South Texas design). The current ladle configuration is shown on pages 1 and 2 of Enclosure 3.

The applicant then discussed each of the ACRS items along with staff cocinents.

The viewgraphs used during this discussion are shown on pages 3 through 21 of Enclosure 3.

At the conclusion of the discussion, the applicant stated that they expected to submit their response to the ACRS letter for staff evalu-ation by August 22, 1979. The staff agreed to perform its review and evaluation as promptly as available staff manpower would permit.
