Exide Comoany, a subsidiary of ESB Ray-0-Vac Cornaration, advises that there is a potential problem with batteries recentl shipped to Southern Calf fornia Edison for their San Onofre Units 2 and 3 and to Consumers Pcwer for their M.Mland Units 1 and 2 which may be reportable under 10 CFP-21.
Exide nas detennined that the batterv (. ells being tested probably will not reet the requirere.nM of IEEE Standards 323-74 and 344-75. There have been in-stances of low voltage cells developing af ter oartial completion of the accelerated life testing. Exide is now taking stens to implement a design change in the construction of the cells to overcome the problem. Production of rede:;1gned cells is ex; ected to resume in 30 days.
