Dear Congressman Hughes:

I am pleased to respond to your letter of June 7,1979, requesting basic information about the use of government vehicles.

The answers to your specific questions are as follows:

1.

Who has access to government vehicles and drivers for afficial use?

Answer: As a part of its general administrative support for conducting official business, the fluclear Regulatory Commission uses a number of cars and drivers to transport f1RC Commissioners, the Executive Director for Operations, and the fiRC Office Directors (Executive Level II through V) to and from meetings and other official functions. The flRC also uses thece cars and drivers for the receipt and delivery of classified and unclassified materials between its nine ' locations in the D. C. area and oth?r government agencies.

2.

What kinds of cars or other vehicles are available to employees per-mitted to use such vehicles?

Answer:

The pool of vehicles includes eight large seda.ns, and two mid-size sedans.

3.

The annual cost of the chauffeurs or drivers of such ve hicles, including overtime pay?

Answer: The total cost of seven drivers, including overtime pay for FY 1978, was $103,900.00.

4.

The annual cost of gas, oil, maintenance, depreciation, etc., of the vehicles used?

Answer:

Answer: The vehicles were leased.

If they were leased, where were they leased and for how much per year?

Answer: The vehicles were leased from Mike Albert leasing, Inc.,

Cincinnati, Ohio, for $20,780 per year.
