Page 1 of 1 Docket No. 50-338 Report No. LER 79-092/03L-0 Description of Event On July 31, 1979, Vepco Quality Control discovered that on July 6, 1979, the weekly surveillance of the D.C. distribution systems (1-PT-85) was performed utilizing Revision 4 of the procedure instead of the latest revision (Rev. 5).

Revision 5 to 1-PT-85 which added the diesel generator battery surveillance program to the periodic test, was approved on June 28, 1979. Since 1-PT-85 was performed on Juiy 6,1979, using Revision 4 instead of Revision 5, the diesel generator battery surveillance program was missed.

Probable Consequences of Occurrence The consequences of this event were limited because during the previous week on June 28,1979,1-PT-85 was performed satisfactorily using a handwritten copy of Revision 5. The diesel generator batteries were also tested using Revision 5 on July 13, July 20, and July 28, 1979 with satisfactory results.

Therefore, the health and safety of the general pubife were not affected by this occurrence. There are no generic implications associated with this event.

Cause The revised copy of 1-PT-85 (Rev. 5) was still in typing and had not been placed in station files by the time the test was performed on July 6, 1979.

Immediate Corrective Action Revision 5 to 1-PT-85 was immediately typed and placed in station files for future use.

Scheduled Corrective Action No scheduled corrective action required.

Actions Taken to Prevent Recurrence An administrative procedure is being written to provide for the control of procedures which are in the process of being revised. This administrative procedure will make it mandatory for markers to be placed in the appropriate procedure files informing personnel that the procedure in question is being revised and that the latest revision should be used when performing the test.

Priorities will be established for administrative action.
