Dear Mr. Keppler:

This is an interis report in accordance with 10CFR50.55(e)(3) concerning a potencially reportable defect in the concrete surrounding the fuel transfer canal su=p.

On July 31, 1979 Mr. C. E. Chmielewski notified your office by telephone that Public Service Cenpany of Indiana, Inc. (PSI) had determined through its Safety Review Cc=mittee that a potentially reportable condition existed involving the fuel transfer canal simp.

A constructicn worker reported that the concrete-backed liner did not sound as though the backing were solid; PSI was unable to determine in the ti=e allowed that no reportable condition existed and therefere telephcned your office.

At this ti=e, PSI still considers the condition to be only potentially re-portable. PSI plans to do additional diagnostic testing; this work has been delayed due to the i=plementatica of the recent confirnatory order halting construction. PSI will perform sonic testing on the areas in questien and will report the actual condition and, if appropriate, the o
