e NRC STAFF STATUS REPORT On June 7,1979, the Appeal Board granted the NRC Staff's request for an indefinite extension of time within which to respond to the County of Suffolk.'s Motion for Leave to File a Supplemental Brief. The Staff's request was granted by the Appeal Board on condition that a monthly status report be filed regarding the progress and expected completion date of the Staff's ongoing review and evaluations.

Because of continuing Staff resource commitments elsewhere, the necessary evaluations are not yet complete in this proceeding. As provided by the Appeal Board's previous grant of an extension of time, Staff will file a monthly status report by at least August 6, 1979.

If, before that time, definitive information becomes available to Staff counsel regarding the expected completion date of the evaluations, the Appeal Board and parties will be promptly advised.

Respectfully submitted, W
