AUGUST 3 1979 Ms. Marilyn Bos, Secretary Citizens for Safe Energy 9514 303 Street, North Hillsdale, Illinois 61257
Dear Ms. Bos:
This is in response to your letters af May 2 and May 12, 1979 regarding the upcoming hearing on spent fuel transfer between the Dresden and Quad Cities sites.
The action being proposed by Commonwealth Edison Company is to allow storage of spent fuel from either the Quad Cities facility or the Dresden facility at either site. The purpose of this action would be to provide more flexibility in the use of available storage space at the two Commonwealth Edison facilities.
Therefore, local interest regarding a hearing location cannot be strictly satisfied by. choosing a location in the vicinity of either the Quad Cities or the Dresden sites. A prehearing conference on this matter was held in Chicago on February 1,1979.
It is likely that Chicago would be the location of the upcoming hearing also. Because of your request and others, however, the location of the hearing is being reconsidered.
In order that you may be notified, we are asking the Office of the Secretary to inform you of the time and place of the hearing when it is announced.
It appears now that the hearing will be held no earlier than September 1979.
At present, we do not have an application from Commonwealth Edison to increase their spent fuel storage capability at Quad Cities beyond the presently authorized 3560 assemblies nor to change the spacing between stored assemblies.
Mcwever, Commonwealth Edison has infomed us verbally that they intend to file such an applic ion in the next several months.
I hope this provides the information requested in your letter.
Sincerely, f
Thcmas A.
