This event occurred between the hours of 0849 and 1730.

Power was restricted to less than 50%

until 1730 of 7/28/79 as per action statement a.2.a.1 of T.S.

3.2.1.

This event is reportabic as per T.S. 6.9.1.9.b and there are no generic inplications.

Probable Consequences of Occurrence Surveillance of the Axial Flux Dif ference assures that the limits of the heat flux hot channel factor are not exceeded during normal operation or in the event of xenon redistribution following power changea.

This pro 71 des protection against exceeding the DNRP and peak fuel clad temperatures.

Since power was held less than 50Z for 24 hours2.777778e-4 days <br />0.00667 hours <br />3.968254e-5 weeks <br />9.132e-6 months <br /> as required by Tech Specs, there was no ef fect upon the safe operation of the plant. As a result, the public health ar.d safety were not af fected.

Cause of Occurrence The AFD deviation was the result of a pouer reduction necessitated by blown packing on FCV-1478.

Iraedia te Corective Action The control roon operator restored the AFD to uithin the target hand by a power reduction and control rod insertion.

Power level was held at 507 for 24 hours2.777778e-4 days <br />0.00667 hours <br />3.968254e-5 weeks <br />9.132e-6 months <br /> as recuired by Tech. Specs.
