Response to I&E Bulletin No. 79-13 The following information is being furnished in response to item 5 of Reference (b).
a.
Maine Yankee is currently planning a shutdown commencing September 1, 1977 to accomplish the inspection required by item 1 of Reference (b).
b.
A review of the plant operating and emergency procedures has verified their adequacy to recognize and respond to a feedwater line break accident.
c.
Methods for detectina, feed.:ater leeks in containment include:
steam flow and feedwatcr flow indications on the MCB, steam generator level and pressure indications on the MCB, containment sump level changes indicated on the MCB, containment temperature and humidity indications available via the containment weight of air monitoring system, and weekly Operations Dept. containment inspections. A feed-water leak has never been experienced at M.Y., and the sensitivity of these detection methods is unknown.
