JAPANESE C0"24ISSION VISIT REQUEST (APRIL 7-13,1979) b-IP hasf3ust been advised that Comissioner Hideo Uchida of the
[
Japanese Nuclear Safety Comission will arrive in Washington Friday nicht, Acril 7, to review the status and activities of the Three Mile Island incident. He will be accompanied by Mr. Sapo, a member of the ACRS: Mr. T. Sasaki, Director of the Nuclear Safety Research Office of the Nuclear Safety Bureau; and Mr. Furuta of the Licensing k.
Division of MITI. Mr. Kurihara or Mr. Suzuki from the Embassy can j-also be expected to join the delegation.
E IP plans to meet with the group on Saturday to sunnarize the situation t' F
and to give then backcround material that we have collected since
" arch 28. We then intend to take them through the E/W Towers Ooerations Center, where we will have someone from the technical staff brief then.
We would also hooe to have a few minutes for discussion from any of the HRC Cocmissioners who plan to be at the Center. Saturday.
IP would set up the tour and briefing at the Operations Center to coincide with whatever tire the Coenissioner(s) would be present.
i IP further recomends that next week (either Monday or Thrusday appear i
best, according to your o;fice), those Cocuissioners who do not meet the group on Saturdsy set aside 10-15 minutes to do so. The delegation l
will understand the need for brevity but will appreciate the courtesy extended.
Please advise me on an urgent bas 1:; which of the Comissioners will be able to see Coccissioner Uchida and the Japanese delegation, either Saturday, Monday, or Thursday, and at what time and place.
IP will arranqe for the delecation to attend other TMI-related activities scheduled next week, but the rest of their orogram is not yet firm.
