Descrintien of Koncennliances:
a.
78-06 On April 10, and 11, 1978 sa ples vere taken frc= the Industrial Waste Treatrent Syste= (L'TS) su=p discha ge (NPDES Discharge 107).
Tne sa=ple taken on April 10 had an iren cencentration of 12.27 =g/1.
Assu=ing the entire discharge (approxi=ately 87,790 gallons) had a concentration of 12.27 =g/1, the total iron discharge vould have been 8.99 pounds which exceeds the 2.h pcunds/ day li=it.
The April 11, 1978 se=ple was taken fro = the same discharge.
The semple had an iron concentration of 13 =s/1 and a TSS concentration of 5h3 =g/1.
If the entire discharge (approximately 77,900 gallons) had those concentrations, the total iron discharge vould have been 8.k5 pounds / day and the total TSS disebarge vould have been 353 pounds / day.
Both of these results exceed NPDES permit limitations for iron and TSS which are 2.h pounds /
day and 2h0 pounds / day respectively.
b.
78-07 On April 12, 1978 a se=ple vas taken frc= the IWS su=p discharge (NFDES Discharge 107).
The sa=ple had an oil and grease concentraticn of 56.6
=g/1.
Assu=ing the entire discharge (approximately 192,870 GAL.) had a concentration of 56.6 =s/1, the total oil and grease discharge vould haie been 91.1 pcunds which exceeds the L8.1 pounds / day li=it.
IV.
Corrective / Preventive Actions for Nonec=nliances 78-06 and 78-07 As detailed tc the EPA in our Honec=pliance Notification No. 78-05, sub=itted April 13, 1978, ve have been experiencing difficulties with our n'TS.
In addition, compounding the proble= is the fact that possible overloading of the syste= has been occuring due to our outage which began March 17, 1978.
Oar corrective actions vill be those as stated in our letter of April 13, 1978.

A: the degree of both iron and TSS viclations.ere not extre=e, and tre fact tnat neither TSS cr iron have been classified as a toxic pollutant, it is believed that no significant environ = ental impact was produced. With re5ard to the oil and g: ease nonec=pliance as no sheen of oil has been observed on the Suscuehanna River and the fact that oil. e.nd grease have not been classified as toxic pollutants, it is thour.ht that this noncenpliance produced no adverse envirennental inpact.
