ydbl AEC PUBLISHES SAFETY EVALUATION OF PROPOSED NUCLEAR POWER PLANT IN PENNSYLVANIA The Atomic Energy Commission is making available to the Public copies of a safety evaluation by its Regulatory Staff of the nuclear power plant which Jersey Central Power & Light Company and Metropolitan Edison Company propose to build in Londonderry Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.
Metropolitan Edison and Jersey Central have applied for a permit to build Three Mile Island Nuclear Station Unit 2 adjacent to Metropolitan Edison's Unit 1 now under construction on Three Mile Island near the east shore of the Susquehanna f
River above York Haven Dam.
The site is about 10 miles south-east of Harrisburg.
As proposed, the facility will use a pressurized water reactor and will have an initial net electrical capacity of about 810,000 kilowatts and an ultimate capacity of about 920,000 kilowatts.
Metropolitan Edison will be responsible for the de-sign, construction and operation of the plant.
Aid in the design and construction of the facility will be supplied by Burns &
Roe, Inc., Gilbert Associates, Babcock & Wilcox Company, Inc.
and United Engineers and Constructors.
The nuclear steam supply system will be supplied by Babcock & Wilcox Company.
A public hearing to consider the application for the con-struction permit will be conducted by an Atomic Safety and Li-censing Board beginning at 10 a.m. on October 6 in the Middle-town Area High School auditorium, 1155 North Union Street, Middletown.
A prehearing conference will be held on September 19 at 1:30 p.m.

In its evaluation, the AEC Regulatory Staff has concluded that the proposed nuclear power station meets the Commission's safety requiremt nts and the Staff recommends issuance of the permit.
