JERSEY C.'IRAL PCWER & LIGh'T COMPANY APPLIES TO AEC FOR PERMIT TO BUILD SECOND NUCLEAR POWER FIE The Atomic Energy Commission has received an application from Jersey Central Power & Light Company of Morristown, New Jersey, for a permit to construct a second nuclear power plant at.cs Oyster Creek site in Lacey Township, Ocean County, New Jerr,ey.
The company's proposed Oyster Creek. Nuclear Cenerating Station Unit #2 will be a pressurized water reactor with an initial net elec-trical capacity of 810,000 kilowatts and an ultimate capacity of 920,000 kilowatta. Unit #2 will be built adjacent to Unic 01, a boiling water reactor now under construction at the Oyster Creek site.
The site consists of approximately 800 acres and is located about 35 miles north of Atlantic City.
Babcock and Wilecx Company will provide the cuclear steam supply system and Burns & Roe, Inc. will be the architect-encineer. The cc=-
pany estimates the cost to construct the reactor and related facilities, including the first fuel core, to be $185,000,000. Jersey Central plans to begin coc=ercial operation of Unit #2 in 1973.
The applic.ation for the proposed reactor will be reviewed by the AEC Regult.cory Staff and by the Commission's Advisory Coc=ittee on Reactor' Safeguards. Before the Cocmission can make a determination on the application, a public hearing must be held.
