Cn February 10, 1978, the pH cf the Industrial Waste Treat =ent Syste: (I'CS) at TMI was 5 95 fer a;;rexi=ately ten (1C) inutes. During this period, a;-
prcxiestely 1000 gallens of vastevater was discherged.
Tne cause of the pH ire;;ing belev the per=it li=itatica of 6.0 was a nalfunctica cf the pH centroller which inecrrectly indicated a need for acid addition in the treatment precess.
Fu-ther the pH trip valve aise failed to shutdevn the syste.
vhen a pH cf 6.0 vas reachel.
?clieving disecve-/ cf the calfunction, station personnel repaired the pH centrcller and reset the trip points to insure system shutdevn at c<pH>9 If ycu shculd have any questions rega-ding this =atter, please centact Mr. G.
