all operating =aintenance expenses in proportion to their respective ownership of the station and such costs, it should be noted, will represent a relatively small portion of each company's total operating f
budget.
Each of the participants is to take the sa:e percentage of facility power as its ownership percentage set forth above and is to bear the same percentage of all facility costs and expenses (including annual f acility expenses, pe rmanent shutdown costs and costs of =aintenance of the f acility in a safe condition) as its ownership percentage set forth above.
~
The annual reports of Met-Ed, Jersey Central, Penelec and GPU, in-cluding fLaancial statements for the year ended December 31, 1972, are attached as Exhibits I, II, III and IT, respectively.
Applicants have not formulated plans for pe r=anent shutdown of the Three Mile Island Unit 2 facility.
However,. assuming shutdown measures comparable to those authorized by the Commission for the retirement of the Halla: Nuclear Power Facility, applicants estimate that the cost of retire =ent for Three Mile Island Unit 2 based on current dollar values, would not exceed $6,000,000.
An additional $50,000 per year will be set aside to cover the cost of round-the-clock surveillance of the f acility, periodic =aintenance to fences and barriers, and quarterly radiological inspection. The round-the-clock surveillance will be perfor=ed by a four man guard force. The radiological inspections will be perfor:ed by a qualified two =an team once per quarter.
It is felt that the quarterly inspections can be reduced to an annual inspecticn af ter an appropriate La t e rval.
Met-Ed, Jersey Central and Penelec will purchase uranium for the first core fro private sources and will obtain necessary enrichment througn toll enriching arrangements with the AEC.
