occupational Radiation Exposure Based on a review of the applicant's safety analysis report, the staff has determined that the applicant is co nitted to design features and operating practices that will assure that individual occupational radiation doses (occupational dose is defined in 10 CFR Part 20) cad that individual and total plant population doses will be as low as is rassenably achie.zable.1 For the purpose of portraying the radiological 1 pact of the plant cpera tion on all on-site persennel, it is necessary to estimate a enn~rea occupational radiation dose.
For a plant designed and proposed to be cperated in b
a nanner consistent with the 10 CFR Part 20, there vill be cany variables which f.nfluence exposure and naka it difficult to determine a qu1atitative total occupational radiation dose for a specific plant.
Therefore, pnst exposure experience fren operating nuclear power 2
s ta tio ns has been used to provide a widely applicable esti:ute to be used for all light wat r reactor power plants of the typa and size for TMI, Unit 2.*
Th!.s experience indicates a value of 500 can-ren per year per reactor unit.
On this basis, the proj ected occupational radiation exposure inpact of the two unit TMI statica is esticated to be 1,000 nan-rea per year.
