This letter is a follow-up to the August 9, 2018 letter sent to the NRC from the US Geological Survey (NRC Docket 50-274, License R-113) with the subject "Request For Approval For Use of Alternative A2 Value For Isotope Br-80m under Appendix A to 10 CFR 71".

The US Department of Transportation (USDOT) has approved the alternate A2 value for Br-80m of 0.40 TBq (11.0 Ci) as of October 3, 2018. However, in order to use this new A2 value for shipping domestically, we still require NRC approval in accordance with 10 CFR 71. This matter has been under consideration by NRC for quite some time, and I am hoping that this new information may help expedite the process.

I have enclosed a copy of the US DOT letter for your convenience.

Please contact me if you need any more information.

Sincerely, Health Physicist US Geological Survey TRIGA Reactor (NRC Docket 50-274, License R-113)
