Summary of Teleconference Between Nuclear Regulatory Commission and Florida Power & Light Regarding Issues with Date:

June 27, 2019 Time: 2:00 PM ET

Participants:

Butch Burton - NRC Bill Ford - NRC Rick Orthen - FPL Danielle XXXX - FPL Scott XXXX - FP:

Summary:

The purpose of the phone call was to clarify for the NRC the past and current use of the L-31E canal. The canal that is located west of the CCS, dead ends south of SW 344th St., and dead ends when it encounters Card Sound Road. It is normally a nonflowing surface water body, however, during very wet periods when there is too much water west of the L-31E canal; a control structure allows water in the L-31E canal to flow into Card Sound via the S-20 canal. This control structure is no longer used. Instead weirs (notches) that penetrate the L-31E canal levees are used. These weirs are located along a northeast-southwest section of the L-31E canal near Card Sound Road. During the very wet periods, they allow water to flow from (1) the L-31E canal and (2) from the Model lands west of the L-31E canal, to flow across the land surface towards Little Card Sound.
