Decket No. 50-320 Three "ile Island Nuclaar Station Unit No. 2 rear Dr. Knuth:
On February 10, 1976, Mr. Sanders of ycur office was verbally notified of a situation which "etrepolitan Ediscn considered report-able in accordance with 10 CF2 50.55E.
This letter constitutes the required thirty day follow-up letter.
Descricticn cf Inciden During the tegger testing cf the Reactor Euilding electrical peretration cables, a nylar catetial used as a separation between the cable insulatien and con-ductcr was found under cable terminal lugs. The con-dition was found en several caties en tvc penetraticts, Nos. 4CCR and 40 R.
The ter=inal
- ugs are f actc ry in-stalled by the vender, General Electric. The use of cylar as a separator appears limited to '.'ulkene type SIS sice 42 AWG cables of which thera are 250 cables in fcur penetraticns. The conditicn as disecvered by tisual cbservatien upcr. investigation cf an abncr ally high tagger reading between cable ccnnector anc grcund.
Anal sis cf Safe - :nnlications The cyler separater naterial prevents gced cent c be een a
the connec:cr lug and cab e ccnducter. This potentia 11

Cr. 2. F. F.nuth..:a r: 9, 1;, 19-4 is not jeccardized since cables cf the type in c,uestien are not safety related circuits and functice totally as feeds for the RC pressurizer heaters.
Ccrrective Action..xen The conditten was documented by a site deviatict report.
General Electric Cc=pany, the penetration supplier, has been recuested to provide writtan verificaticn that other penctratien cable types do net contain the cylar separater.
A progra to assure the replace:eut of the faulty termina-tien pric to fuel leading has been initiated. Documentaticn cf the replacement progress will be available at the site.
Very truly ycurs,
