April 26, 1979 Mr. Joseph M.
Hendrie Chairman Nuclear Regulatory Commission 1717 H Street, N.W.
Washington, D.C.
20555
Dear Mr. Hendrie:
I realize the Commission's deliberations over the status of nuclear power plants constructed by the Babcock and Wilcox Company involve difficult issues and tough decisions must be made.
As the Representative o f an area that was effected quite significantly by the Three Mile Island incident, I ask that my views be considered.
In light of the problems arising from the difficulties at the Three Mile Island plant and my own evaluation of public concern, I would like to offer my opinion that the Commission order all operating Babcock and Wilcox designed nuclear facilities to be shut down pending appropriate design cor-rections.
Babcock and Wilcox nuclear facilities which are not presently in operation should remain shut down until necessary corrective action is completed.
Thank you.
