Dear Mr. Hendrie:

The following is the text of a messa6e, intended for you, which I read to dr. Harry Thorncer6 at your Operations Center on the evenin6 of March 28:

i The accident at Ihree Mile Island in Pennsylvania makes it clear that all citizens living near nuclear plants are hostage to the effectiveness of the initial infor=ation alerts about potential accidents.

A parallel warnin6 system for the public, constantly monitored by the NRC, is required.

Dependence on the utility company alone, whose operating concerns are different from public concerne, is clee.rly inadequate.

Immediate attention to this problem is of the h1 hest priority since another accident can 6

occur at any time.

($)

For the record, my concerns are not those of a johnny-come-lately.

I was an early intervener as re6ards site locations on the Susquehanna River; as well as the quality of public information about such l

plan ts,

Dear Sir:

I a= writing regarding the nuclear energy plants that the U.S. is building.

This is even core of a concern with the Harrisburg incident.

I have been, and will continue to oppose these plants.

There surely is a better way.

The Harrisburg incident is surely a sign that we should stop this =adness.

I would encourage you to work toward a complete stoppage of new plant construction as'well as shut down any plants now in existance.

kh I live relatively near the Harrisburg plant and I am very uncomfortable with what is happening.

q

Dear Sirs:

I live in Grays Harbor County, Washington State, rel-atively near to the Satsop ';uclear Power Plant construction.

I am adamently opposed to tne centinued construction of nuclear power facilities in Washington or anywhere!

i i

I feel that thereis no safe or adequate means of disposing of nuclear wastes.

Discoveries of radioactive leakages in Washington's Colombia River Basalt radioactive waste cemetery, and the fact that this same area is part of an earthquake belt, causes me to further question the intelligence of those respcasible for nuclear planning.

In the case of the "Three Mile Island Reactor Incident",

even the most immediate ;vacuation action is not rapid enough.

How fast can anyone run from radioactive wastes

([)

spilled into the earth's atmosphere?

Attempts to cover up the fact that this incident was nearly a case of the

" China Syndrome" serves as proof that even nuclear regulators believe that there are real dangers involved--

if not, then why was'nt the truth made known immediately??

As increased nuclear facilities are constructed, the chances of more " incidents" increase phenomenallyt Any. time that we must depend on human neans of control, we must expect human error to be present.

Nuclear power leaves NO room for human error.

John Chanceller (NBC News) recently stated that the "Three Mile Island Incident" was being investigated in order to guarantee NO future nuclear incidents.

I personally want my guarantee signed and delivered!!

As a future parent, and as one who has lived less than a quarter of her proposed life span, I'd like you to en n

the prospects of my future and especially the futu re c f my children.

Maybe thinking in terms of my children nov e ng a future is overly optomistic!

In any case, I beseeco you, please consider the appalling consequences of a large-scale nuclear acgident.

I fear that it will take just such a dreaded accident to sensitize people to the risks involved with any and all use of fissionable materials.

Please join me in'my protest of all nuclear activity, and in my search for safe energy alternatives.

.,Most sincerely, 7Ylc ck dt.h f O
