Dear Mr. Hendrie:

As you ray know, the House Subcommittee on Transportation and Ccm erce, which I chair, has legislative urisdiction over the trans-s portation and disposal of hazardous materials.

I am, of course, deeply concerned about the continuing dangers asso-ciated with the nuclear accident at the Three Mile Island Plant in Middleton, Pennsylvania.

It is my understanding that af ter the plant has cooled down sufficiently, plans and procedures for removing, transporting and final di:posal of the nuclear waste material will have to be implemented.

Pursuant to this subcommittee's oversight responsibility in regard to the transportation and disposal of hazardous waste, please be advised that we wish to be informed on a continuing basis as these plans are formulated, analyzed and implemented.

Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
