SUBJECT:

FY19 ANNUAL REQUEST FOR RISK-INFORMED ACTIVITY INFORMATION The purpose of this memorandum is to request a review and status update of your risk-informed activities. This information will be used to revise the current information on the agencys public website.

In Staff Requirements Memorandum (SRM), BRIEFING ON STATUS OF RISK-INFORMED AND PERFORMANCE-BASED REACTOR REGULATION (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) ML061520304), dated June 1, 2006, the Commission directed:

The staff should seek ways to communicate the purpose and use of PRAs in NRCs reactor regulatory program more transparently to the public and stakeholders.

The Risk-Informed Activity website accomplishes this transparency. The webpage can be accessed directly by using this URL link: http://www.nrc.gov/about-nrc/regulatory/risk-informed/rpp.html.

As you add new activities and update the status of existing activities please ensure the information is presented in a manner for the public to have a clear understanding of the purpose and use of risk insights at the NRC. Providing specific examples will be helpful for the public and our stakeholders to understand how we use risk to make risk-informed decisions.

includes links to the information your office provided for Fiscal Year (FY) 2018. To facilitate your input for FY 2019, Enclosure 2 includes a template for providing the latest status of your Risk-Informed Activities, and Enclosure 3 includes guidance to ensure the activity summary description and FY 2019 section accurately describes the use of risk.

I appreciate your support and request a consolidated office-level response by November 8, 2019. If you have any questions about this effort or need to change existing information on the website, please contact Dale Yeilding (301-415-0898) of my staff.
