Dear Mayor Knickerbocker:
Thank you for your letter dated June 7, 2019, inviting the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff to the first Indian Point Nuclear Decommissioning Citizens Advisory Panel (NDCAP) meeting. We appreciate your invitation and look forward to future opportunities to share information with the NDCAP regarding the NRCs oversight activities to ensure the safe decommissioning of Indian Point.
Upon receipt of your letter, my staff reached out to you to understand how we can best support the NDCAPs informational needs for the upcoming meeting scheduled on Thursday, June 13, 2019. From your discussion with my staff, I understand that you are not requesting that we provide a presentation at this meeting. Further, there was agreement that a previously scheduled government-to-government meeting on June 20, 2019, would be an opportune forum for the NRC to provide information and address questions on the decommissioning process.
Insights from this meeting can help inform specific topics of interest that the NDCAP may ask the NRC to address at a future meeting.
Based on the above, we will not attend the first NDCAP meeting but look forward to discussing the decommissioning process with you and other panel members at the government-to-government meeting. After this meeting, our Regional State Liaison Officer, Doug Tifft, will be available to coordinate our participation at a subsequent NDCAP meeting.
