Regional Information Inquiry for Proposed Consolidated Interim Storage Facilities Hello Steve and Lisa, I am supporting the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) as a contractor to develop Environmental Impact Statements (EISs) for the proposed consolidated storage facilities in Andrews County, Texas, and Lea County, New Mexico. We met in February 2018 when the NRC staff conducted scoping meetings and met with the EDCLC.

I am sending this email to you because of your possible knowledge of construction material sources in the region. Your experience with the development of URENCO and other large facilities in the region may equip you with information that would be helpful for the NRC staff to consider. For example, you, or other members of the EDCLC, may be familiar with the average percentage of concrete, steel, rock, and other materials listed below that is typically available for purchase within the region when large projects are planned. In particular I am looking for an estimate of the percentage of the materials that could possibly be purchased in Lea, Eddy, Andrews, and Gaines counties. Knowing what materials could be purchased in which county would be most helpful to me. For example if the only major concrete provider in these counties is located in Gaines County, that is helpful information.

The types of construction materials that would be purchased for the proposed CISFs include

-Concrete for a few buildings and several acres of concrete pads

-Chain link fence

-Power line cables and electrical wiring

-Gravel, dirt, and rock (ballast) for new access roads and rail spur

-Steel rail tracks, rebar, beams in buildings

-Rail road ties and power line poles

3 I appreciate any information that you are able to provide. I welcome setting a time when we can talk if you prefer to discuss this over the phone.

Sincerely, Amy Minor Amy Minor l Sr Research Scientist l Center for Nuclear Waste Regulatory Analyses Southwest Research Institute l (210) 522-5750 l aminor@swri.org CAUTION: This email originated from outside SwRI and it may contain attachments and/or links.
