OF APRIL 9, 2019, CLOSED MEETING WITH THE U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION STAFF AND OKLO, INC., TO DISCUSS OKLO, INC. DESIGN OVERVIEW (EPID LRM-0011)
On April 9, 2019, a closed meeting was held between the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff and representatives from Oklo, Inc. (Oklo) at the NRC offices at Three White Flint North, 11601 Landsdown St., Rockville, Maryland 20852, Room 1-C03. The purpose of this closed meeting was for Oklo to provide the NRC staff with an overview of its design.
The design overview included an introduction to Oklo and its organization. Oklo provided information on its design, including key design features, size and source term, fuel and materials, power density and burnup, and modeling. Oklo also presented results from its implementation of Draft Guide (DG)-1353, Guidance for a Technology-Inclusive, Risk-Informed, and Performance-Based Approach to Inform the Content Applications for Licenses, Certifications, and Approvals for Non-Light Water Reactors, including the Oklo safety case, and proposed application structure and content. The NRC staff gained information on the Oklo design and safety case needed to inform review preparations. The NRC also provided Oklo with feedback on the areas of focus and level of detail needed to review the Oklo design.
