Thank you for speaking with Lorna Kipfer during the Nuclear Regulatory Commissions (NRC)
Regulatory Information Conference (RIC) in March and for expressing your concern that the planned dates for RIC 2020, 2021 and 2022 conflict with the dates for the Waste Management Symposia in Phoenix, AZ. We also received your email to the RICHelpDesk.Resource@nrc.gov resource mailbox on April 1, 2019.
As promised, your concerns were conveyed to the two sponsoring office directors, Ho Nieh, Director, Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation, and Ray Furstenau, Director, Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research for their consideration. We certainly recognize that the date overlap may pose an imposition for some, therefore, your suggestion warrants mindful exploration. During our RIC planning, we carefully determine the dates for future RICs and we strive to keep to the early March time frame (generally the second week in March) since we have found that it tends not to conflict with most other meetings or conferences. We publish the dates for future RICs up to three years in advance, on the RIC website. RIC participants are aware that the RIC will be held each year in March and plan accordingly.
We have ascertained that it would not be feasible for the NRC to change the dates of the RIC for 2020-2023, therefore, the scheduled dates of the RIC will remain as planned. Please know that we appreciate your bringing this to our attention and thank you for your understanding.
