SUMMARY
REPORT RELATED TO THE ENVIRONMENTAL SCOPING PROCESS FOR THE HOLTEC CONSOLIDATED INTERIM STORAGE FACILITY APPLICATION (DOCKET NUMBER: 72-1051)
The staff of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) conducted a scoping process from March 30, 2018, through July 30, 2018, to determine the scope of the NRC staffs environmental review of an application from Holtec International for a consolidated interim storage facility to be located in Lea County, New Mexico. As part of the scoping process, the NRC staff held a public scoping meeting and webinar at the NRC headquarters in Rockville, MD, on April 25, 2018, and five public in-person public scoping meetings in New Mexico. The dates and locations for these New Mexico meetings were: (1) April 30, 2018, in Roswell; (2) May 1, 2018, in Hobbs; (3) May 3, 2018, in Carlsbad; (4) May 21, 2018, in Gallup; and (5) May 22, 2018, in Albuquerque. The meetings were held to solicit public input regarding the scope of the environmental review. Transcripts from the webinar and each meeting along with digital versions of the handouts and the NRC presentations can be found on the NRC website:

The next step in the environmental review process is the issuance of the draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS). Notice of the availability of the DEIS and the procedures for providing comments will be published in the Federal Register.
