DPR-32 DPR-37 This is in response to your letter of January 31, 1978 wherein you request-ed information to be used in the review of our November 22, 1977 submittal for the permanent solution of the low head safety injection and recirculation spray pumps net positive suction head problems. It will not be possible for us to meet the 45 day deadline specified in your letter.

As you know, the bulk of the data requested in your letter requires that our NSSS vendor provide certain cold leg LOCA information for Surry.

Since Surry was licensed on the basis of a hot leg LOCA, the cold leg data simply does not exist.

In the past we have used North Anna cold leg LOCA data which we be-lieve to be conservative when applied to Surry.

We have contracted for our NSSS vendor to develop the required data for Surry.

This is an expensive and time consuming process which requires interaction between our NSSS vendor and our Architect Engineer, and we are somewhat at the mercy of their combined work schedules.

Our best estimate for the NSSS vendor to complete their portion of the work is July 1978.

Within thirty days of receipt of this information, we should be able to provide all of the data requested in your letter.

Some of the information requested in your letter regarding justification of analytical procedures is available through our A-E.

We anticipate being able to submit this by April 15, 1978.

We will keep you informed about developments in the resolution of this is-sue.
