1.0 INTRODUCTION

The Virgil C. Summer Nuclear Station (VCSNS) utilizes a pressurized water reactor rated at 2900 MWT. The maximum dependable capacity is 966 MWe.

The station is located approximately 26 miles northwest of Columbia, South Carolina.

2.0 OPERATIONAL DATA For the reporting period of January 1 through December 31, 2018, the station operated at a capacity factor of 87.1% (using maximum dependable capacity) and a unit availability of 86.1 %. The reactor was critical for a total of 7567.6 hours6.944444e-5 days <br />0.00167 hours <br />9.920635e-6 weeks <br />2.283e-6 months <br />, the generator remained on line 7539.4 hours4.62963e-5 days <br />0.00111 hours <br />6.613757e-6 weeks <br />1.522e-6 months <br /> and the total gross electrical energy generated for 2018 was 7,665,652 MWH.

3.0 OPERATING

SUMMARY

VCSNS Unit No.1 operated at 100% power from January 1st through April 5th_ On April 5th power was reduced to 91 % to support main turbine valve testing.

Reactor power was restored to 100% on April 7th_

VCSNS operated at 100% power from April 7th to May 1st. On May 1st power was reduced to 87% following the trip of 'B' Main Feedwater Pump. Reactor power was restored to 100% on May 5th.

VCSNS operated at 100% power from May 5th to June 15th_ On June 15th power was reduced to 91 % to support main turbine valve testing. Reactor power was restored to 100% on June 15th_

VCSNS operated at 100% power from June 15th to October 5th. On October 5th the plant was shutdown to begin Refueling Outage Twenty-Four (RF-24). The main generator breaker was opened on October 5th at 2352 hours0.0272 days <br />0.653 hours <br />0.00389 weeks <br />8.94936e-4 months <br />. The outage was completed on November 25th at 1843 hours0.0213 days <br />0.512 hours <br />0.00305 weeks <br />7.012615e-4 months <br /> when the main generator breaker was closed. Power was restored to 100% on November 29th at 0230 hours0.00266 days <br />0.0639 hours <br />3.80291e-4 weeks <br />8.7515e-5 months <br />.

The unit remained at 100% power for the remainder of 2018.

The outage duration was scheduled for 52 days. The main generator breaker was closed on November 25th at 1843 hours0.0213 days <br />0.512 hours <br />0.00305 weeks <br />7.012615e-4 months <br />.

  • "A" Train Inverter Replacements (XIT 5901/5902)
  • Feed Reg Valve Positioner Upgrade
  • CROM System Demolition - Phase 1
  • Simplex Upgrade
  • "B" Loop Auxiliary Crane
  • XIT 5905
  • CROM Duct Permanent Flange Refueling Outage 24 duration was 50.8 days. Personnel exposure in 2018 due to the outage was approximately 47.311 Rem.

Forced Power Reduction >20% Exceeding 4 Hours None 4.0 FAILED FUEL VCSNS did not have any indications of failed fuel in 2018.
