OF FEBRUARY 26-28, 2019, CLOSED MEETING WITH THE U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION STAFF AND OKLO, INC., TO DISCUSS OKLO, INC., DRAFT GUIDE 1353 PILOT REPORT On February 26-28, 2019, members of the Office of New Reactors met with Oklo, Inc (Oklo) at their offices in Sunnyvale, CA. The purpose of the meeting was to gain insights on Oklos pilot of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commissions (NRC) Draft Regulatory Guide (DG)-1353, Guidance for a Technology-Inclusive Risk-Informed and Performance-Based Approach to Inform the Content of Applications for Licenses, Certifications, or Approvals for Non-Light Water Reactors. The discussions included an overview of the safety case of Oklo's fast micro reactor design and its use of inherent safety features, the use of Dynamic Probabilistic Risk Assessment (DPRA), external hazards, fuel performance, siting and environmental issues, and staffing for security and for controlling the plant. The NRC staff gained a better understanding of Oklos safety case and its application of the DPRA in implementing the pilot. The NRC staff also gained an understanding of the overall status of the design and analysis work. Oklo plans to update its licensing project plan and will include its future pre-application engagement activities.
