I wish to file a 2.206 petition in the matter of NRC's granting of PG&E's request to extend the regulatory requirement for ultrasound inspections of the Diablo Canyon reactor's welds from ten years to twenty years.
Given the history of PG&E equipment failure sparking gas line explosions and wildfires that have killed dozens of people since 2010, we feel granting this exemption was wrong and should be revisited. Especially given the embrittlement danger to the welds of Unit 1 containing excessive amounts of copper that have been found to be susceptible to embrittlement from neutron bombardment, this rule change makes no sense.
The reactor is currently shut down for refueling, and I urge that the reactor not be allowed to operate until these weld inspections are carried out. This is especially important given the seismic threats that exist at the site.
