COURSE (STC-19-014)

Purpose:

To provide notification to the States of students selected to attend the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commissions (NRCs) Safety Aspects of Well Logging (H-314) course scheduled to be held April 29 - May 3, 2019, in Sugar Land, Texas.

Background:

The NRC provides funding to the Agreement States for training and the associated travel.

Discussion: Students selected to attend the April 29 - May 3, 2019, Safety Aspects of Well Logging (H-314) course in Sugar Land, Texas, are provided in Enclosure 1. Please provide this notification to each individual from your program that has been accepted to this course.

Students selected to attend this course will be paid travel and per diem by the NRC. Detailed guidance for students is provided in Enclosure 2. Please inform us of any withdrawals immediately so that individuals on the waiting list have an opportunity to attend.

INSTRUCTIONS TO STUDENTS ACCEPTANCE: Individuals listed in Enclosure 1 have been accepted for participation in the Safety Aspects of Well Logging (H-314) course. This course is scheduled to be presented April 29 - May 3, 2019, at Schlumberger Technology Corporations training facility, 210 Schlumberger Drive, Sugar Land, Texas, a Houston suburb.

COURSE: Please see our Web site, https://scp.nrc.gov/training.html for the tentative course schedule and note that the course begins at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, April 29th and ends at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 3rd. You must attend the course in its entirety and receive a grade of at least 70 percent on the exam, which is administered on the last day, to receive credit for the course. Please pack comfortable clothes and close-toed shoes which are required for the field trips. If you have any questions about the class, please contact Liz Speights at 512-834-6770 ext. 2008.

LODGING AND TRAVEL: Please plan to arrive on Sunday, April 28th and depart on Friday, May 3rd.

Students must make their own lodging and travel arrangements. If traveling by air, please contact El Sol Travel at 1-844-244-6694 for airline reservations, and indicate that the travel is Invitational for the NRC. If there are no flights available that would allow you to arrive home before midnight on Friday, May 3rd, you may elect to depart on Saturday, May 4th. Please select a fully refundable Government fare if one is available, and make sure that El Sol Travel correctly direct bills your fare to the NRC credit card. You will need to allow one hour to get from the airport to the hotel. If the need arises and you must make a change, please contact Karen Meyer at (301) 415-0113.

Please complete the Travel Application Form which will be provided to you and submit to AStrainingandtravel.Resource@nrc.gov, at your earliest opportunity, but no later than Friday, April 23rd. The per diem for Sugar Land, Texas is $131 for hotel and $61 for meals and incidentals.

The first and last day of travel is calculated at 75 percent. Rental cars are not authorized for reimbursement. If you plan to drive, the Federal mileage reimbursement is 58 cents per mile.

Sugar Land Marriott Town Square is the designated meeting place for the bus departure for the field trip on Wednesday, more information will be provided to you by your instructor. If you need a ride to the Schlumberger Training Center or you can volunteer to carpool students, please meet in the lobby of the Sugar Land Marriott Town Square hotel by 7:45 a.m. on Monday, April 29th. A hotel shuttle bus is available for students to arrange their transportation to the Schlumberger Training Center. Please use the hotel link below to reserve your lodging, the hotel is holding a block of rooms which will be released on April 15th, so please make hotel reservations as soon as possible.
