Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

IE CIRCULAR 76-06 NO. 1 UNIT SALEM NUCLE~R GENERATING STATION DOCKET NO. 50-272 In response to your letter of November 24, 1976 transmitting Circular 76-06, we have reviewed our inspection program for safety-related piping systems.

It has been determined that all safety-related piping systems have been hydrostatically tested and representative volumetric examinations have been performed bn w~lds in Nuclear Class 1 and 2 piping systems, in accordance with our Preservice Inspection Program, which was virtually completed ~t the time of issuance of the Unit 1 operating license.

We are presently in the process of detailing the Inservice Inspection Program for safety-related piping systems which will include leak testing, hydrostatic testing, fluid sampling and, where necessary and feasible, volumetric examination.

This program will consider both safety-related piping systems of concern in ASME Section XI and in your Circular 76-06.

It is our intent to submit a report to your office which describes our Inservice Inspection Program by March 1, 1977.

Very truly yours, Ai.,/~_;__
