20555 Attention:
Mr. George Lear, Chief Operating Reactors Branch 3 Division of Operating Reactors Gentlemen:
INCREASED CAPACITY SPENT FUEL RACKS NO. 1 UNIT SALEM NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION DOCKET NO. 50-272 PSE&G hereby transmits Revision 1 to its application to increase the spent fuel storage capacity from 264 to 1170 fuel assemblies in the spent fuel pool of the No. 1 Unit of Salem Nuclear Generating Station.
This revision supersedes our transmittal of November 18, 1977 and consists of the results of the seismic non-linear structural analysis and dropped fuel assembly accident analysis.
It should be noted that the storage rack design has been modified to allow an increase in the nominal lattice spacing within a rack module.
The current design of 10-1/2 inches center-to-center spacing increases the neutron isolation of the stored fuel bun-dles from that of the original 10-3/8 inch lattice.
The increased spacing permits a slight reduction in minimum boron content contained in the poison cells.
Table 3.1-4 demonstrates that the new design is slightly more conservative in the criticality analysis than the original design.
This submittal consists of three signed originals and 37 copies.
Should you have any questions regarding this application, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Very truly yours, 71.Lt~
