January 22, 2019 MEMORANDUM TO: Jennivine Rankin, Acting Branch Chief Licensing Branch 3 Division of Licensing, Siting, and Environmental Analysis Office of New Reactors FROM:

Adrian Muniz, Project Manager /RA/

Licensing Branch 3 Division of Licensing, Siting, and Environmental Analysis Office of New Reactors

SUBJECT:

SUMMARY

OF MEETING TO DISCUSS ADVANCED BOILING-WATER REACTOR CERTIFICATION RENEWAL PEAK CLADDING TEMPERATURE INCREASE On December 19, 2018, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commissions (NRC) staff held a meeting with members of GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GEH) to discuss a reported increase to the peak cladding temperature associated with the review of the Advanced Boiling-Water Reactor (ABWR) design certification renewal. GEH discussed items identified during the ongoing NRC staffs regulatory audit of GEHs peak cladding temperature reports submitted in accordance with Title 10 Code of Federal Regulations 50.46, Acceptance criteria for emergency core cooling systems for light-water nuclear power reactors, and explained how they were addressing these items. In addition, GEH discussed how they proposed to supplement the latest letter associated with this review item in support of their application to renew the ABWR design certification. The presentation material can be found in Agencywide Document Access and Management System Accession No. ML18352A788. The NRC staff asked clarification questions in order to understand GEHs proposed supplemental information.

The list of participants for the meeting are included as an enclosure.
