MICHIGAN WASHINGTON, C.C. 20510 June 15, 1979 Joseph Hendrie, Chairman Nuclear Regulatory Commission 1717 E Street7 N. W.

Washington, D. c.

Dear Chairman Hendrie:

BANKING. HOUSING. ANO URBAN AFFAIRS COMMERCE. SCIENCE. ANO TRANSPORTATION HUMAN RESOURCES BUDGET It is my understanding that the Palisades Nuclear Plant near South Haven, Michigan is to undergo a replacement of *the steam generator*.. I have been contacted by several constituents who wish to voice their concerns in a public hearing.

Given their concern regarding the -safe operation of this -plant, and my belief that_

we should allow as.much citizen participation as possible, I hope you will-allow public intervention at this hearing at the expense of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. One group in particular that has filed for citizen partici-pation in this matter is the Great Lakes Energy Alliance.

If you have any questions, please contact Steve Harris of my staff at 224--4822.

Thank you for your: cooperation.
