Purple~ Chief Operating Reactor Branch No 1

 • US Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555 DOCKET 50-255, LICENSE DPR~20 PALISADES PLANT, BATTERY CHARGER OPERATION In our letter of April 15, 1976, we *responded to a number of questions relating to Palisades Plant's electrical systems.

A review of our response to the aper~

at ion of the battery chargers (Item 5) indicates that some confusion may arise concerning one mode of operation.. This letter is written to clarify this area.

In our April 15, 1976 response, we stated that changes will be made in operating practices (and operating procedures) such that no more than one battery charger is powered from one MCC.

However, Technical* Specification 3.7.2h permits plant operation for 24 hours2.777778e-4 days
0.00667 hours
3.968254e-5 weeks
9.132e-6 months
without one of the station batteries, provided both bat-tery chargers on the affected bus are in operation. It was our intent that the discussion (Item 5 of April 15, 1976 letter) apply to normal operation and that operation as specified in Technical Specification 3.7.2h would be permitted.

Our operating practices and procedures are being developed accordingly.
