  • .Power company DOCKET 50-255., LICENSE DPR PALISADES PLANT - INSERVICE INSPECTION By letter dated May 5, l976, Consumers Power Company was requested to provide the date on which the next 40..-month Inservice Inspection Interval commences at the Palisades Plant. In addition, we were requested to provide the date which we intend to submit any necessary amendments to our Technical Specifications due to changing code requirements. The purpose of this letter is to provide the requested information.

The next 40-month Inservice Inspection Interval commences October 31, l976.

We have begun a review of our inservice inspection program with respect to the edition of the code in effect no more than six months prior to October 3l, 1976 (the start of the next 40-month period) . We note that it will not be possible to complete the review and submit a proposed amendment to the Technical Specifi-cations, should any be required, as required by 10 CFR 50.55a(g)(5)(ii). We further note that while we will make every effort to meet this requirement in the future, the requirement is impractical. Unforeseen circumstances may prevent inspection as originally planned and amendments to the Technical Specifications may have to be made, based on inspection experience, after an inspection interval has begun. We, therefore, request exemption from the submittal time requirement of 10 CFR 50.55a(g)(5)(ii).

The present inservice inspection program for Palisades includes a numbe~ of items which are considered impractical or not applicable. We are reviewing this pro-gram against the appropriate edition of the code and plan to submit a proposed amendment to the Technical Specifications, should any be required, by March 1, 1977. We plan to begin inspection of Classes 1, 2 and 3 components, under the revised program, during the next refueling outage which is scheduled for August 1977 .
