- Area Code 517 788-0550 February 6, 1976 Director of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Att:
Mr Robert A. Purple, Chief Operating Reactor Branch No 1 US Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555 DOCKJ!:T 50-255, LICENSE DPR-20 PALISADES PLANT -
BORON CONCENTRATION In our letter of August 27, 1975 we indicated that we would advise you, on a bimonthly basis, of the status of our program to prevent unacceptable chemical concentrations during the long term after a Loss of Coolant Accident (LOCA).
This program involves the qualification of equipment required to provide in-dependent flow paths to the reactor vessel.
This letter provides the second status report of this program and covers the period through January 9, 1976.
In order to assure that this project be completed as soon as possible, we have contracted with the plant Architect-Engineer (A-E) to assist us in qualifying systems and equipment.
The schedule of all other items appears below.
Every effort is being made to complete the equipment qualification program during the present outage of the Palisades Nuclear Plant.
Item 1 - M0-3015, M0-3016 Limitorque's motor supplier, Reliance Electric, was on strike until late December 1975, and the delivery date for these replacement motors is uncertain.
Limitorque was to notify Consumers Power of the new shipping date on January 13, 1976.
Item 2 - PS-0103 A purchase requisition to DeLaval Turbine, Inc, Barksdale Control Division, is being processed.
The delivery date for the new pressure switch is ex-pected to be late March 1976.
2 Item 3 ~ CV-2ll3, CV-2ll5 A purchase order has been issued to IT&T Hammel-Dahl/Conoflow Division for replacement actuators, yokes, diaphragms and 0-rings for these valves.
The supplier will also furnish a seismic qualification report.
Delivery date is still unknown but estimated to be late March 1976.
Item 4 - CV-2ll7 A purchase order has been issued to WKM-Valve Division for a replacement diaphragm and real housing assembly for this valve.
The manufacturer will also supply a seismic qualification report.
Delivery is scheduled to be March l, 1976.
Item 5 - SV-2113, SV-2ll5, SV-2117 A purchase requisition to Electric Wholesale Supply Co is being processed.
The delivery date for the solenoid valves is estimated to be late March 1976.
Item 6 - Control Air System This item is being considered as part of the A-E contract.
Inspection of the control air system within containment was to be completed by the end of January 1976.
A-E's recommendation should be complete by late February 1976
- Item 7 - CV-1057, CV-1059 Same as Item 4.
CV-1057 and CV-1059 are identical to CV-2117.
Item 8 - E/P 1057, E/P 1059 Inspection of these devices could only identify them as HoneyWell manufactured.
The original devices were replaced in early 1970.
The NSSS vendor special ordered the present E/P and the details are still uncertain.
As soon as more information is located, the manufacturer will be contacted to determine if the devices meet the new seismic and environmental conditions.
Item 9 - Electrical Power and Control Cable Inspection of some cable has been completed.
The A-E is attempti_ng to pro-vide additional information before any more inspections are made.
Item 10 - Electrical Power Independence The status of this item remains the same.
Until the directions of the above items are defined, this item is being held up.
The actual work does not appear to be significant.
3 Item 11 - Miscellaneous The status of this item remains the same.
Plant stock records, drawings and maintenance procedures reviews will be completed following upgrading of the individual components.
