Mr Albert Schwencer, Chief Operating Reactor Branch No l US Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555 DOCKET 50-255, LICENSE DPR PALISADES PLANT, CASK DROP ANALYSIS By letter dated May 20, 1976 you requested additional information concerning our analysis (transmitted by letter dated January 9, i976) of a postulated spent fuel cask drop, The additional request involved information on the effects of a postulated cask drop and tip resulting from a cask trunnion failure.
We have reviewed this type of failure and concluded that this would not pose an immediate problem.
The assumptions involved in this review, however, could affect our plans for future spent fuel storage.
Therefore, we have concluded that additional review of this problem is required.
We anticipate that it will take us until about October 1, 1976 to respond to your request.
We expect that this response would resolve those concerns stated in your May 20, 1976 letter and resolve additional concerns which might arise due to future fuel storage.
