CRANE HOIST CONTROL By letter dated August 20, 1976, we responded to your letter dated July 28, 1976 transmitting IE Bulletin No 76-07.

This bulletin requested information concerning Crane Hoist Control. Circuit Modifications for cranes handling spent fuel shipping casks.

In our response, we stated that a review of the Palisades Plant spent fuel building crane determined that we had not made nor did we plan to make modifications to the hoist control similar to that de-scribed in the IE Bulletin.

While this statement is correct, it nas come to our attention that modifications to the hoist control system have been made at the Palisades Plant.

These modifications consisted of the addition of a redun-dant hoist brake and supply rectifier.

Both the original and the redundant brake rectifiers are energized directly from the 460 volt hoist motor terminals and no modifications to the control circuitry or changes in brake power were made.

No brake contactors are used on either the new or the original brake circuits.

While this information does not change our conclusions regarding the similarity of these modifications to those described in IE Bulletin 76-07, we believe this information may be of interest to your staff.
