Letter from National Environmental Group regarding the Bellefonte Nuclear Plant, dated December 1, 2018
Dear Mr. Abadi:
On December 3, 2018, we received your referenced letter, (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System Accession Number ML18338A432), requesting information related to the Bellefonte Nuclear Generating Station, Units 1 and 2 (referred to as BLN) in Jackson County, Alabama. With regard to the BLN plant, on December 24, 1974, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) issued for both units construction permits (CPs) No. CPPR-122 and CPPR-123 (Docket Numbers 50-438 and 50-439) to the Tennessee Valley Authority. No operating license for BLN has been issued. The NRCs role with regard to the site is limited to the CPs and enforcing applicable Federal Regulations. In accordance with NRC regulations, the NRC must provide its written consent prior to the transfer of control of the BLN CPs. The CPs may also be terminated and withdrawn by the NRC at the request of the CP holder.
