Midland, TX, 79707 Email: travisw@forl.com General Comment The Holtec High Level Nuclear Waste is a horrible idea, poses a tremendous economic and environmental risk for the US.

Storing high level radioactive waste on the surface creates an obvious target, if struck could easily knock out a very large percentage of US domestic oil and gas production. The ramifications would be felt across the nation with resulting high energy prices. A nice way to open the door for very expensive renewable options that cannot compete without government funding.

South East New Mexico and West Texas, known as the Permian Basin, play a critical role providing energy for our country. According to the API the oil and gas Industry supports about 9.8 million jobs and makes up to eighty percent of the USAs GDP. Your Interim Storage facilities are right in the heart of the Permian Basin.

If a site has a release, dry cask failure, and/or a terrorist attack, it could create a 50-mile radius of contamination, requiring evacuation, one of the largest areas of domestic production would be severely harmed. A significant security risk that would adversely affect the economic stability of our nation. The Permian Basin is providing roughly 3.3 million BO per day according to the Federal reserve in June 2018.

Any of the proposed facilities will impact a large percentage of the Permian basins production in New Mexico and Texas.

Put this high-level radioactive waste below a mountain. Move it across the country only once. It will always be a target for those that would do us harm. Make it a tough target, put it under a mountain. Consult with General Austin S. Miller, General James C. McConville, and General Raymond A. Thomas where they think the best location would be for high level nuclear waste. Ask all the generals, just make sure you give them all the facts.

What a novel idea, maybe you could name it Yucca mountain. Oh wait the US has already spent $ 15 Billion on Yucca mountain to have it used as political pawn and dropped, thats government in action.

Quit kicking the can down the road and do something right for the security of our great country. Reactivate Yucca mountain and make high level nuclear waste difficult to find.
